(Burbank, CA) "Sex" Sells,  Takes Babes To Bank

                         .

Spring is the time when a young man's fancy turns to love, but he'll have to wait until June 2nd for "Sex".  HBO's "Sex In The City" will return to the cable giant Sunday nights in June (9 PM Eastern & Pacific)  for its tantalizing insights into the hearts and minds of hot, urban, thirty-somethings.

Fans and critics alike will have to deal with the "more cash less work" trend of the talents with five fewer season run episodes than the previous eighteen.  All the former stars and regulars are scheduled to return, including Cynthia Nixon, left, and Sarah Jessica Parker, right, pictured above.

(New York) NBC's Red Hot Ratings Romp Continues

Jay Daniels

Rarely has a single network held over half of the positions in Nielsen's Top 20 shows, but the ratings for March are in, and NBC has done it.  The network has 11 out of the 20 top TV shows, and this list includes: Friends, Law & Order, Leap Of Faith, The West Wing, Fear Factor, Frasier, ER, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Will & Grace, Dateline: NBC Tuesday, Dateline: NBC Friday.

CBS had a strong March, taking half of the top 10.  Stellar showings for CBS:  Survivor: Marquesas, 60 Minutes, Everybody Loves Raymond, JAG, and Becker.

CBS execs have been working for years to add to the network's "depth chart", but what about ABC?  The only two programs for ABC to spike in the Nielsens,  Primetime Live, and The Practice.

With 2001's threat of actors and voice talent strike, all the networks mobilized to find "reality" based programming to take the place of serials and other shows that could have disappeared overnight had the strike materialized.  The initial popularity spiked ratings, but quickly wore off after some of the networks pushed the shows into multiple night per week timeslots--where the burnout factor started their slow decline.

After the "reality" of the horrors of September 11th, reality programming shows like "The Amazing Race" were temporarily pulled from the lineup.  "Survivor" ratings dipped, and the networks immediately found their viewers with cable and satellite glued to CNN and Fox News Channel as they broadcast commercial free to a shocked and sickened nation for days.  In Since the terrorist attacks, the networks have struggled to regain some semblance of normalcy.

Can NBC be beaten?

Even with the exits of George Clooney, Eriq LeSalle, and others, "ER" still rolls strong.  Next year will be the last for "Friends", but newcomer "Leap Of Faith" is hot out of the box, and may take the "Friends" slot after it's last episode.  Don't look for ABC's dominance of the top 20 to end anytime soon.

EntertainmentWorlds will keep you posted next issue after the results of the Spring Sweeps.
